HiFiBerry DAC8X

All Products

The HiFiBerry DAC8x is a high-resolution digital-to-analog converter for the Raspberry Pi 5. This is a special sound card for the Raspberry Pi, optimised for one specific use case: affordable high-quality audio playback.

One of the major restrictions of the Raspberry Pi since the beginning has been the limitation of 2 audio channels. While this is fine for most applications, there are use cases where you would like to use more than 2 output channels, such as home theatre or spatial audio. There are lots of other applications too: playing 4 independent stereo streams on the same Pi or even creating software-based crossovers for 4-way speakers.

The HiFiBerry DAC8x offers 8 channels of high-quality audio output up to 192kHz sample rate for your Raspberry Pi.

The driver development for the DAC8x took us longer than expected as the Raspberry Pi 5 audio subsystem is still very new. We want to thank especially Phil Elwell from Raspberry Pi who helped with the necessary patches.

Now, here it is: The DAC8x. We’re interested to learn what you will do with it!

We now stock the ADC8X Add-on to add 8 input channels, and the DAC8X Backplate, allowing you to fit this HAT into the HiFiBerry Universal Steel Case for Raspberry Pi 5.

Features

  • 8-channel sound output
  • Four dedicated 192kHz/24bit high-quality Burr-Brown DACs
  • Connects directly to the Raspberry Pi, no additional cables needed
  • No soldering - comes as a pre-fabricated kit
  • Compatible with Raspberry Pi 5 ONLY
  • Directly powered from the Raspberry Pi, no additional power supply
  • Two ultra-low-noise linear voltage regulators for optimal audio performance
