The ThirdReality Zigbee Motion Sensor R1 is a Zigbee 3.0 motion sensor designed for reliable, real-time motion detection. It requires a compatible Zigbee hub and works with a wide range of platforms, including Home Assistant, SmartThings, Hubitat, Homey and other Zigbee-compatible smart home hubs. This is a motion sensor, not a presence sensor.

Motion is detected using mmWave technology, so detection is not affected by heat or sunlight. Sensitivity and detection range can be adjusted directly on the device using physical buttons, without opening an app. The range can be manually set between 1.5 and 9.5 metres, making it easy to adapt to different room sizes and layouts. When paired with a compatible (Zigbee-enabled) hub, the sensor can trigger automations for your smart home, such as switching lights on or off or sending notifications when motion is detected.

The Motion Sensor R1 is powered by three AA batteries (included) and requires no wiring, allowing flexible placement. Battery life is rated at up to three years under typical use. Additional features include adjustable cool-down time and over-the-air software updates.

mmWave - but not as we know it!

Wait - an mmWave motion sensor, but without zones, presence sensing and the usual mmWave features? Yes that's right, weird eh? It's a unique alternative to the common PIR sensor, with the mmWave undertaking simple motion sensing only. The benefits being:

• Slightly better range
• Able to detect though surfaces/hide inside cupboards etc (if that's a good thing for your scenario)
• Detection not impacted by heat or sunlight
• Fine adjustment ability
• Low power consumption
• Battery powered (using readily-available AAA batteries)
