SupTronics X1203 UPS for Raspberry Pi 5
The SupTronics X1203 is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) add-on designed for Raspberry Pi 5. When combined with compatible batteries** connected via the XH2.54 connections, it provides a stable 5.1V 5A output, using a low-resistance MOSFET for reduced power loss. Power is delivered to the Raspberry Pi via pogo pins, avoiding the need for cables or soldering, with two XH2.54 connectors are available for additional 5V outputs.
This board features two XH2.54 battery connectors, intended to be used with 3.7V 18650 cells wired from a battery holder. It's ideal for those wishing to mount/store their batteries separately, away from the Raspberry Pi.
Charging is supported at up to 3A, with GPIO-based control and protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, and reverse battery connection. Battery voltage and percentage can be monitored over I²C via integrated Maxim fuel-gauge systems, with four onboard LEDs showing 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% levels.
Power input is via a high-efficiency DC-DC converter with a 6V–18V input range (barrel jack) and up to 95% conversion efficiency. It supports up to 5.5A output current, allowing fast 3A charging while powering the system. Input can come from sources such as a car or solar panel, and it’s compatible with standard 5.5×2.1mm jacks. A USB-C port also offers the option to power with the Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C PSU.
Power switching is automatic between the adapter and batteries. The board can trigger safe shutdowns when battery levels are low, supports auto power-on, and mimics the Pi’s power button using an onboard power button. An LED shows system power and Pi detection, and GPIO pins monitor power loss or adapter failure.
The X1203 mounts underneath the Raspberry Pi 5, leaving the 40-pin GPIO free for other accessories such as HATs or coolers. A separate XH2.54 header is available if you want to connect your own external power button.
Raspberry Pi, batteries, cables, Active Cooler and power supply not included.
**SupTronics state that they intend this board to be used with 18650 cells (likely via a battery holder, plugged into the XH2.54 input connector). Check your 18650 batteries are the correct specification before using them with this board - i.e. 3.7V rechargeable lithium-ion - and ensure the XH2.54 connector polarity matches this board.
If you want something more all-in-one, consider other UPS options in the SupTronics range with battery holders built in.
